Evangeline’s work over the years has explored human responses to emptiness and unfulfilled longing, including the longing for perfection and stability and the resistance to change. She has often explored these concepts with a focus on that which is absent or not readily visible, and with an Eastern outlook on emptiness as an opening through which, beauty, love, and perspective may emerge. Integral to this exploration has been Evangeline’s continual change in the processes and materials used in her work, and the “Tango” pieces reflect a departure from the surface-ground and punctured aluminum and steel media and specific historical references that Evangeline has used in the most recent past.
