"Imaginary landscapes have been a subject of my work for over a decade. My paintings have combined 23-karat gold leaf with bronze, copper, aluminum and white gold leaf. Large areas of metal leaf are sometimes oxidized and patinated to create gestural abstract landscapes.
I frequently combine different types of gold and metal leaf in a single painting to exploit their different colors and reflective qualities, combining for example, a 23-karat gold sky with bronze leaf water. The bronze is often oxidized with chemicals and acids creating an active surface." Paul Hunter
